Nursery go for a Winter Walk
In Nursery we wrapped up warm and headed off on our winter walk around the grounds of our school.
We were looking for signs of winter and found lots of them!
Using our binoculars, we found some birds, including "a robin redbreast" and "a starling". We also found some birds’ nests up in the trees and using our binoculars we were able to get a closer look. On the ground we also made some birds’ nests of our own using leaves and twigs and some small branches. The boys and girls worked together to create a cosy nest for the birds, tucking them in.
We did some mark-making using our chalks and white boards, drawing some of the big tall trees that we saw, as well as a snowman and lots of different shapes.
We used our magnifying glasses to look for frost and ice and found some covering the leaves on the ground.
At the tables we did some bird sorting and matching, putting the correct colour bird into the correct colour nest.
The children also became a nature photographer taking pictures on their own cameras capturing all the different learning that was going on!
We also made our very own bird feeders using cardboard, lard, and some bird seeds. The children then chose where they wanted to hang their bird feeders on the branches of the tress.
We had such a fun morning learning outside, and we were ready to head back to nursery in time for our morning snack!
